DUKE NUKEM: Critical Mass (DS)
Critical Mass is the first in a planned three game trilogy, none of which have any relation to the console reboot, Duke Nukem Forever. The DS and PSP versions are unique games unified by the same basic story. In Critical Mass, Duke travels into the future and learns that through some action of his own in the past, he has inadvertently brought about alien invasion.
Both versions feature multi mode game play mechanics, massive action intense levels, and the beautifully crafted environments with graphics level of details rarely seen on handhelds.
Duke Nukem: Critical Mass DS (“DNCMDS”) is a score-based “Multi Mode” Action Shooter game. Items (of different values) can be collected for points. Duke also has the opportunity to re-arm and find heath bearing objects as each environment is well-stocked with enemies to blast. All items, objects and bonuses are placed in locations that keep the game play exciting and challenging in all difficulty settings.
From a game play perspective, there are 5 different game play styles, facilitating “Multi Mode” game play. These modes look and feel like different experiences, yet the player will smoothly transition to each in a natural way that is consistent with the story and action. The Multi Mode game play styles are as follows:
SIDE SCROLL mode - regular action platformer combat game play enriched with diagonal camera views
COVER FIRE (TM) mode - available at especially designed level areas. The player can take cover behind multi-level objects, jumping down the alley to more accurately eliminate the enemies from closer distance
SNIPER mode - possibility to eliminate the enemies being scripted for next level from Sniper location available on current level
JET PACK mode - featuring full 3D level graphics on both screens
BOSS BATTLE mode - camera multi-perspective system for intense boss battles, enriched by close combat button-press finish kill sequences (QTE)
